153 new family doctors graduate in the Class of 2022

Class of 2022 Graduation Ceremony Recording now available

On June 8, we welcomed 153 new family physicians at our virtual Class of 2022 graduation ceremony, which was attended by nearly 200 family, friends and others in the DFCM community.

Our latest cohort of family doctors completed all their training during the COVID-19 pandemic – a remarkable accomplishment that is a testament to their hard work and dedication over the past two years.

“I want to share my most heartfelt congratulations to all graduating residents. I’m excited for all the skill and heart you will bring to your communities. I also want to honour and thank all the family, friends, loved ones, and teams who have supported our graduates over these two very challenging years,” says Dr. Danielle Martin, Chair of the University of Toronto Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM).

On behalf Dr. Martin and the entire DFCM community, a big THANK YOU goes out to all our educators who supported our new grads on their journeys!  A special thanks goes out to the Postgraduate Education team who make it look so easy, including Dr. Stu Murdoch, our Postgrad Program Director, and the team of associate program directors, site program directors, and site program administrators for all their incredibly hard work keeping our residency program running at an incredibly high level of quality throughout such difficult times. Special mention also goes to Sana Balasubramaniam, Program Assistant in Curriculum & Evaluation, for hosting a heartwarming and successful virtual graduation! We are so indebted to this wonderful team.

Although graduation marks the end of one journey, it also marks the beginning of a new one. Regardless of where their career takes them, we wish our newest graduates the greatest success – and hope that they stay in touch with DFCM!

Victoria’s journey to med school and family medicine, with an alumni helping hand

Victoria Mintsopoulos (MSc 2019, MD 2023) will graduate this spring from the MD Program at the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine. Her dream of working in comprehensive, holistic patient care has led her to choose family medicine as her preferred field.

Making a difference in patients’ lives: Celebrating family medicine residents

Second-year resident Dr. Alis (Qinyuan) Xu is becoming a family physician for a few main reasons. “Family medicine appealed to me because we are in a unique position: We have a special opportunity to make a difference in patients’ lives over a long period of time,” says Dr. Xu. “You never know what issues will come through the door. Each is a puzzle to solve.”
