About DFCM, Faculty
Dr. David Tannenbaum

The University of Toronto Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) is pleased to announce that Dr. David Tannenbaum has been appointed Vice-Chair, Operations. Dr. Tannenbaum recently completed his second term as Interim Chair and will continue to support DFCM in this new leadership role.

“Dr. Tannenbaum has artfully steered our department through a turbulent period. When he agreed to take on the role of Interim Chair, none of us knew what the pandemic had in store. But we have been extremely lucky to have his calm and compassionate leadership to guide us,” says Dr. Danielle Martin, who succeeds Dr. Tannenbaum as DFCM Chair. “I speak on behalf of our entire department when I thank David for his steady navigation of DFCM throughout this time. I look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role.”

As the Vice-Chair, Operations, Dr. Tannenbaum will work closely with the Chair and DFCM leadership team. He will provide advice and oversight on important aspects of DFCM’s operations, finance, relationships and partnerships, and departmental and university policies. He will also participate in the process of building a strategic plan for the department that reflects core priorities and a shared vision for the future.

Dr. Tannenbaum joined DFCM in 1983 and has held numerous leadership roles within the department and externally. He is an Associate Professor with an active clinical practice, teaching residents and medical students in the Granovsky Gluskin Family Medicine Centre in the Mount Sinai Academic Family Health Team. Until taking on the DFCM Interim Chair role, he was also Family Physician-in-Chief in the Ray D. Wolfe Department of Family Medicine at Sinai Health System.

“I am deeply appreciative of the many faculty and staff throughout DFCM who have made the work of Interim Chair extremely rewarding. I look forward to continuing on the DFCM leadership team in this new capacity,” says Dr. Tannenbaum.

Dr. Tannenbaum began his two-year term on October 4, 2021.
