Leah Steele

Dr. Steele received her MD from McMaster University in 1996. She completed her family medicine training at the University of Toronto in 1998 and then completed a PhD in clinical epidemiology in the Health Policy, Management and Evaluation program at the University of Toronto in 2003.
She practices addiction medicine at the Methadone Works program of Toronto Public Health. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Toronto. She is a Scientist in the Keenan Research Centre of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute and the Department of Family and Community Medicine at St. Michael's Hospital. Dr. Steele is an Adjunct Scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Studies.  She is cross-appointed to the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation and the School of Graduate Studies.    

Research Synopsis

My research interests relate to the equitable delivery of mental health services with particular attention to socially disadvantaged populations.  I also conduct research on the relationship between sexual orientation and barriers to health service delivery.  Finally,  I enjoy research related to my clinical focus which is the provision of care to individuals with severe addictions.
